Plagiarism and university writing?

You should be able to form your own argument around the facts that you've found in your research. University writing isn't about regurgitating a couple books, which is what you're talking about. It's about demonstrating what you've learned and talking about it in a new way. If you need to include textual support or facts, you need to cite it. Period. Yes, you'll have a lot of footnotes.
